The remixed version, however, is better than the original.įinally we have Mohit Chauhan crooning the song "Ye dooriyan". It's a dance number that is high on beats. Neeraj Sridhar returns with "Twist", which is intermingled with the song "Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya" from the 1958 film " Phagun". But it might not go on to become a chartbuster. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it has a folk touch to it in places. With the next song "Thoda thoda pyar", the Punjabi flavour takes precedence. KK makes his presence felt with fast-paced song "Main kya hoon", which is enhanced by electronic and psychedelic beats. This too has a remixed version, which is quite average. The lyrics are not the highlight of the song, but the number has the potential to impress music buffs. With brilliant vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Sridhar, the next song "Chor bazari" starts with foot-tapping, peppy music. A romantic song that is extremely soothing to the ears, "Aaj din." strikes a chord with the listeners. "Aaj din chadeyya" starts with a small alaap. Up next is a beautiful rendition in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. The number also has a remixed version, which will become a favourite on the DJ consoles. It sets the mood by mixing both Indian and western influences. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar, the song keeps juggling between the two genres and is very entertaining. "Aahun aahun", which has an electrifying start with the strumming of the guitar, is an amalgamation of a hit Punjabi pop song by singer Jazzy B and the Hindi song composed by Pritam. The film that stars Saif and Deepika Padukone has seven originals and three remixes in the soundtrack. Pritam has left no stone unturned in creating soulful melodies. Let's take up some more of the beginning lyrics as well.īeautiful song to get emo to, or "senti" as they would say in Desi English. After the hit score of "Jab We Met", director Imtiaz Ali has collaborated with Pritam yet again for the music of Saif Ali Khan's production debut "Love Aaj Kal". Let all distances be destroyed (Sab = all hi is an emphatic addition) The distances of gazes (Nigaahen = eye or gaze, which becomes -hon because of the ki) The distances of these paths (Note: "yeh" turns into "in" when there is a possessive (ki) in the mix) Look to the colors in each line for corresponding meanings. Let's listen to the song, shall we? (The video is a random fan slideshow, not an actual video from the movie.)Īs mentioned in an earlier post, "Yeh" means "this/these." So the "yeh dooriyan" that keeps being repeated is "these distances."Īnd now for the translation of the chorus. "Dooriyan" is the plural, an emphasis on multiple distances. "Dooriyan" plays beautifully into this narrative with its wistful melody and lyrics. The film shows the similarities between the relationships despite the stark difference in circumstances. The film explores two relationships: one modern-day story of a couple that initially decides to break up for practical purposes, and the agonizing emotional journey that follows and one older tale of love at first sight. Sometimes, when said in combination "aaj kal" means "these days." But in the context of this movie, the title equates to "Love Now and Then" ("then" being in past tense). Aaj means today, and Kal could either mean yesterday or tomorrow. By special request, today I shall visit the song Dooriyan from the spankin' new Bollywood film Love Aaj Kal starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Rishi Kapoor.
